IDW Expands Marvel Artist’s Editions Line
IDW has just announced four more Marvel Artist’s Editions books, in addition to the three that have already been announced for 2023. To recap, Kevin Nowlan’s Marvel Heroes Artist’s Edition will be out next month, Michael Golden’s Marvel Stories Artist’s Edition is scheduled for July and Frank Miller’s Daredevil Artist’s Edition is pegged for August. But they will be joined by these…
September will see the publication of two Artist’s Editions in the same month: Walter Simonson’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition is the complete collected pages of Fantastic Four issues #337–341 and #352–354, in their au naturel pencil and ink state. Bill Sienkiewicz’s Mutants and Moon Knights and Assassins Artisan Edition is the second book and it will spotlight assorted artwork from Sienkiewicz’s Moon Knight, The New Mutants, and Elektra: Assassin projects.
In October John Romita’s Amazing Spider-Man: The Daily Strips Artist’s Edition will be published, a gallery of 300 Amazing Spider-Man daily comic strips written by Stan Lee and drawn by John Romita (these are from the strip’s first few months). Finally, John Byrne’s X-Men Artist’s Edition is scheduled for November, and it it sounds familiar, yes, it was first printed in 2018 — it’s back for a second round.
“Marvel Comics’ wonderful output of stories has been an extraordinary playground for me to create Artist’s Editions in,” says Scott Dunbier of IDW. “Working with our friends at Marvel will allow us to continue doing books with old favorites like Walter Simonson and John Romita, and focus on a bunch of artists that are brand-new to the format. I think people will be as excited as I am as we roll out the incredible books we have planned in the years to come!”
And that’s just in 2023. IDW says they have “over two dozen” collaborations with Marvel set for the future.
