How To RPG With Your Cat Kickstarter Now Live
Oddfish Games has officially launched the Kickstarter for How To RPG With Your Cat, a new solution to an old problem. Cats tend to disrupt tabletop gaming sessions with their demands for attention and their mistaking of small figures for edible bugs. So…what if there was a tabletop RPG where the POINT was for the cat to get involved?
In How To RPG With Your Cat, your pet is unwittingly cast as an important character in the game’s world. Should the cat choose to leap onto the table and start pawing various figures, well, it was supposed to do that! This is a story event that the other players will have to respond to…in any other fashion than the normal one (carrying the cat into another room and locking the door). If the cat decides to take a figure off the table, carry it to the corner and start chomping….well, it was nice knowing you, Larry.
The role the cat plays is up to you. Wise sage, world-destroying monster, trained dragon, fearsome boss…with imagination, a cat can be anything. Important decisions or inputs can be weighed on what the cat does at certain points called Cat Prompts. The game can be played in person, or virtually in an online Zoom or Facetime session (which might work even better as just one member needs to own a cat). You can even play the game as the only human participant. Your cat (or plural cats) will be the other characters and their Cat Prompts will create unpredictable story twists.
The rules in How To RPG With Your Cat are fully adaptable for other games, so you can involve your furry friend in a game of D&D if you want. Everything you need to know How To RPG With Your Cat is explained in the Core Rulebook. There will also be an introductory adventure, Trouble on the Sphinx, included to give you a feel for cat-centric adventuring. Any further questions can be answered by the play session video below.
You can get a PDF copy of How To RPG With Your Cat for just a $15 pledge. Doubling that pledge to $30 lands you the physical paperback version (with the PDF thrown in). Double that again and they’ll sign the book for $6, plus throw in a designer cat-themed tote bag. Don’t snooze on this one…you have until October 14 to nab How To RPG With Your Cat.
