How to know if a new TV show will be cancelled even before it airs?
Korean Dramas are starting to dominate streaming services for one reason. A lot of them are complete stories and don’t end in cliffhangers. Most Korean Dramas are single-season shows with 12 to 24 episodes. They are meant to be a finished story. Squid Game might be an exception because it reached a global audience and became a phenomenon. The Writer of that show did not intend it to be a multiseason show. A possibility of the second season is in the works because of the hit it became. Most of the time Korean dramas end the shows regardless of ratings because they are meant to be a single season.
It is not the case in American television. A lot of the audiences end up with sleepless nights because a show they got attached to was canceled after 1 to 2 seasons. To make it worst the cancellation happened after an ending with no resolve. You can know a show will be canceled just by looking at the platform that will air it.
TV Networks like ABC, Fox, FX, and Netflix have a high chance of canceling a show. Especially if the budget is too high but it didn’t deliver with ratings. Smaller Networks have a lesser chance to get canceled but they are still at risk. If you want to avoid being attached to a show that will be canceled without closure. I avoid the shows from those Networks that are high risk if they only have 1 to 2 seasons.
There are also circumstances we cannot avoid like the Pandemic, company mergers, and controversies. The current generation of audiences also has impatience when it comes to attention span. If the review of the first three episodes of a show is that it is too slow-spaced. Don’t expect a second season. Modern audiences wanted Adrenaline rush with the pacing so paddings will not work anymore. Slow Paced shows will suffer a quick death. If the Marketing of the show is also bad, Don’t expect it to last.
It is better to just binge-completed multiple series. I enjoyed watching The Good Place and Black Orphan without worries of cancelation. I have no worries because both shows are already ended and have not been canceled.
