Here Is Half Of The Genesis Mini Lineup
Late last month, Sega revealed their Genesis Mini — an unsurprising response to the craze over mini plug-and-play consoles, mostly of the Nintendo variety.
At the time of announcement, Sega said the Genesis Mini would come pre-installed with forty classic games from the library, and revealed ten of them. Today they revealed ten more, and we have to say, we’re pleased so far. In the Genesis Mini you will find:
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Ecco the Dolphin
- Castlevania: Bloodlines
- Space Harrier 2
- Shining Force
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- ToeJam & Earl
- Comix Zone
- Altered Beast
- Gunstar Heroes
- Earthworm Jim
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
- World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
- Contra: Hard Corps
- Streets of Rage 2
- Thunder Force 3
- Super Fantasy Zone
- Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
- Landstalker
Any one of these (with the possible exception of launch pack-in Altered Beast) can keep you entertained for hours. Sega is clearly putting in a real effort, to the point that they would obtain a dual license from both Disney and Capcom to get the two Mickey Mouse Illusion games on the device. (Aladdin would have been even better, though maybe that one’s coming.)
It’s a far distance from the afterthought that was the “Genesis Flashback” console, cheaply thrown together by AtGames for space-filling in supermarkets and drugstores. Never buy one of these, folks; there isn’t a single good thing about them. This video tells you more.
With the development being handled by emulation masters M2, the Sega Genesis Mini could become just as huge a hit as the NES or SNES Classics were. Our suggestion is to get your preorders in now.
