Henry Cavill Opens Up About DCEU
When you ask fans and critics about DC’s cinematic universe, you often get very different opinions. Mainly because DC is trying to do something very different in their superhero films, and when compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it gets criticized because they DIDN’T do what Marvel did. With things coming to a head in November with the release of Justice League (which will be the universes only film until Aquaman in December 2018) a lot of fans think that DC really needs to nail this, especially to keep up with Marvel. But, Superman actor Henry Cavill doesn’t see it that way.
For him, he sees what’s happened with Man Of Steel, Batman V Superman, and Suicide Squad as the “right mistakes” to make. He said to The Rake:
“Even if Marvel didn’t exist, we’d struggle,” he said. “There was a style they were going for, an attempt to be different and look at things from a slightly different perspective, which hasn’t necessarily worked.
Yes, it has made money but it has not been a critical success; it hasn’t given everyone that sensation which superheroes should give the viewer. … I feel like now the right mistakes have been made and they haven’t been pandered [to], and we can start telling the stories in the way they need to be told,” he continued. “It is even better to come back from a mistake or stylistic error into the correct vein because it will make it seem that much stronger. Wonder Woman was the first step in the right direction.”
He went on to praise Wonder Woman for what it did not just for the DCEU, but for female superheroes as well. What’s more, the film inspired him to still to want to be Superman, who will be in Justice League, but to what capacity is not known yet. And, there’s rumors about Man of Steel 2 coming as well.
We’ll have to see if he’s right when Justice League releases November 17th.
