HBO Max Releases Trailer For Station Eleven
Did you ever look at all the pandemic news and think to yourself, “What would it be like if this was worse?” That’s the premise of HBO Max’s ill-timed miniseries, Station Eleven, set to debut next month.
Yeah, we know. Post-apocalyptic situations brought about by viruses have been a staple of fiction for a long time. It’s still bizarre HBO didn’t hit the brakes on something like this given they’ve had a year and a half to do so. But in 2014 COVID wasn’t an acronym anybody knew outside of some scientific circles, and that’s when Emily St. John Mandel’s novel was published. It went on to be a best-seller, won an Arthur C. Clarke award and virtually guaranteed itself some kind of Hollywood adaption. It just had terrible luck in timing.
In Station Eleven, a crippling flu has toppled human society and we follow the survivors through multiple stories and multiple generations as they gradually rebuild civilization. The show stars Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, Daniel Zovatto, David Wilmot, Matilda Lawler, Philippine Velge, Nabhaan Rizwan, Lori Petty, Gael Garcìa Bernal, and Danielle Deadwyler. You read correctly: the blonde from Halt And Catch Fire AND the lead from Tank Girl in the same show.
Patrick Somerville is running the show, with Hiro Murai, Jeremy Podeswa, Helen Shaver and Lucy Tcherniak directing episodes. Whether you’re ready for the apocalypse or not, all ten episodes of Station Eleven premiere on HBO Max December 16.
