HBO Max Orders “IT” TV Show, Welcome To Derry
The story goes that after finding out about Chucky’s successful TV series on the SyFy channel, Pennywise the Clown became enraged and marched up from his sewer into a board meeting of Warner Bros executives, and demanded to know where HIS show was.
A suit stammered out, “W-well, that’s a bit more difficult, because you died at the end of your second movie.”
Another said, “We–we COULD make a prequel show, but no one likes those–”
“WHEN HAS THAT EVER STOPPED YOU BEFORE??” Pennywise raged, a mouth of sharp teeth on full display.
“You-you’re right, you’re right,” a board member sweatingly said, waving his hands. “We’ll make your prequel show.”
“Yeah, I THOUGHT you’d see it my way,” Pennywise said, now pleased. “I predict great success for it. It’ll totally…FLOAT! See what I did there?”
“No,” an exec said, confused.
“Ahh, I’m not wasting my best material on you,” Pennywise grumbled before honking his nose and exiting the room.
The “It” prequel show will be called WELCOME TO DERRY, at least for now (it’s a temp title, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s what they go with). It’s being developed by filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, both of whom made the recent “IT” movies, and Jason Fuchs, who worked on IT Chapter Two and Wonder Woman.
“As teenagers, we took turns reading chapters of Stephen King’s ‘IT’ until the thick paperback fell to pieces,” the Muschettis said in a statement. “‘IT’ is an epic story that contains multitudes, far beyond what we could explore in our ‘IT’ movies. We can’t wait to share the depths of Steve’s novel, in all its heart, humor, humanity and horror.”
Since Pennywise only rises to terrorize Derry once every 27 years, a prequel would probably take place in 1961. As for the year the series will actually come out, no one knows yet.
