Hayley Atwell Doesn’t Like Cap/Sharon Relationship
Despite the rave the reviews and box office dollars, there were some thing that most fans can agree were “odd” in Captain America: Civil War. One of them was the kiss that was shared by Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter. It was odd because they barely had much screen time together in Civil War, and it was stated in the movie that they had barely seen each other sense. Furthermore, it felt odd that they did this after Steve found out that Sharon was Peggy Carter’s niece.
Hayley Atwell herself, who played Peggy Carter in the films and the Agent Carter series, offered up her thoughts on this during the recent Dallas Fan Expo:
“Well, first of all she’d be turning over in her grave,” Atwell said, with a grin. “She’d be like ‘no.’ And she’d inject herself with the blue serum and become a super villain. She’d break out of her coffin and ground [Sharon]. She’d ground her. Then she’d kick Steve’s ass as well.”
Atwell continued “I just feel that, you know – I wouldn’t want to date my great aunt’s guy. It just feels like it crosses an incestuous boundary. And Peggy just died. That’s even more disrespectful, right? It’s like, ‘don’t touch that.”‘ You can’t tap that!”
She notes also that she would be very protective of Sharon, and that dating Steve might be bad for her:
“She’d want the best for her and she’d want her dating a good guy. And now with this whole ‘Hail Hydra” business, I don’t know if Steve’s good enough for her,” she said, referring to the new controversial Cap arc from the comics. “So on all levels, it’s just a big fat no.”
It will be interesting to see how far this progresses in the next movie.
