Gwent Challenger: The Witcher Card Game Tournament
Those who have played The Witcher 3 know of Gwent, the card game Gerald can play in multiple locations within the larger game. Since it was plausible for Gwent to be produced as an actual card game….it was. Now it’s time for all that practice to pay off, as a real-life Gwent Tournament has been announced.
CD Projekt Red, the studio that developed The Witcher 3 (and by extension Gwent) is behind Gwent Challenger. This isn’t the first Gwent competition to ever be held, but it is the first official one. Paweł Burza, Community Manager at CD Projekt Red, said “It’s a real privilege to observe how active Gwent players are in the realm of competitive gaming. Community-powered tournaments like The Passiflora Championship, The Seven Cats Brawl or The Gwentlemen’s Open are a source of inspiration for the entire team, and we definitely want this part of Gwent to grow.”
“GWENT: The Witcher Card Game was created because The Witcher community wanted it. Now we’re seeing more and more gamers wanting to play GWENT competitively, so here we are with a chance to play against some heavy-hitters, and a prize pool to spice things up,” said Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of the studio. “I can’t wait to see who wins!”
Anyone can sign up and compete, but only four will make it to the final competition and the chance at the prize pool worth $100,000. Go to the official website to register for the qualifying tournament. A detailed rule set, tournament roadmap and FAQ are also on the site.
