Gundam 40th Anniversary Celebration: Char’s Counterattack Screens December 5
Yeesh, Gundam is 40…where did the time go? Sunrise and Fathom Events will be teaming up to celebrate the birthday of the giant robot mech franchise this December. For one night only, you’ll be able to catch Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack in theaters.
Char’s Counterattack, originally released in 1988, was the first Mobile Suit Gundam theatrical movie. It is set in the Universal Century timeline and serves as a wrap-up to the original Gundam storyline, which began in “Mobile Suit Gundam” and continued through “Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam” and “Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ.”
Those who purchase a ticket will also get an exclusive interview with the creator of the Gundam anime franchise, Yoshiyuki Tomino, as well as some content from ANIME NYC 2019. (That convention hasn’t happened yet, so we have no idea what you’re getting.)
Amuro and Char, two best mobile suit pilots who fought together against Titans after the Jion’s independency war, must face each other in a fateful duel where the Char-led Neo-Jion, attempt to drop a gigantic meteor and nuclear weapons on Earth in order to cause Nuclear Winter to wipe out its inhabitants.
Gundam 40th Anniversary Celebration: Char’s Counterattack will screen Thursday, December 5 at 7 PM in Japanese with English subtitles. This will be the only showing, and approximately 400 theaters across the US will get it. Check your listings for the nearest location.
