GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka Is Going D: Digital
Toru Fujisawa’s dark comedy GTO: Great Teacher Onizuka is a staple of most manga collectors’ shelves, but soon it will enter the digital space as well. Kodansha has the rights and is adding the series to their virtual lineup.
It’s been 25 years since the debut of the first volume of GTO, so it seemed appropriate to get it onto digital storefronts already…and while they were at it, add the other 24 volumes. Yep, the entirety of GTO will be available on the same day.
“We’re excited to bring back such a fan-favorite manga digitally from the vault of Kodansha’s extensive catalog,” said Alvin Lu, president & CEO, Kodansha USA, “Equal parts dark comedy and action / adventure, GTO is sure to rekindle the love of manga for any fan who’s been out of the loop, and give new fans the chance to experience this classic senin series for the first time.”
Eikichi Onizuka is a mean, crude, foul-mouthed ex-biker who has the unusual ambition of becoming the greatest teacher in the world. You might feel sorry for whatever high school class is about to wind up with THIS guy, but that’s before you turn the page…it turns out his students are even worse than he is! To become the GTO he claims to be, Onizuka will have to find a way to tame the class.
There was also a sequel series called GTO: 14 Days in Shonan, and before you ask about it, that one is also going digital…all nine volumes, on the same day. The currently running GTO series, Paradise Lost, will also be sold at a discount. Watch out February 1st for the complete GTO saga on Bookwalker, comiXology, Kindle, Apple Books, Google Play, Nook, Kobo, izneo, MyAnimeList and others.
