Gotham Knights TV Show In Development At CW
There must be some kind of contest at Warner Bros over how many ways you can make a live-action Batman TV series that doesn’t use Batman. There have been at least five at this point, most coming out within the last ten years, and nearly all of them frame Bruce Wayne as either too young, not born yet, missing, or in the case of the proposed series Gotham Knights, DEAD.
Yes, Bats is dead — and his adopted son has been framed for his murder! We have no idea which adopted son (aka which Robin) they’re talking about. Depending on the canon, we’ve got Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Dick Grayson or Damien Wayne, who isn’t adopted and is Wayne’s legitimate kid but he’s not out of the running here.
Also co-framed for the murder are the children of Gotham’s former villains Batman defeated. Unidentified Adopted Wayne Person will have to form uneasy alliances with them to take down their common enemy….but who could it be? Cue season-long search for answers. That’s Gotham Knights in a nutshell.
We’re told if this series gets made, it would have nothing to do with the currently running Batwoman TV series and would not take place in the same continuity. Two separate Batman-less Batman shows on the same network using two unrelated Gothams would be confusing for casual viewers, especially if they use the same Vancouver BC streets for both….so can we assume CW is thinking of dumping the trash fire Batwoman has become? (We’re not that optimistic, actually.)
Gotham Knights does not have a guaranteed deal at this time. It’s just an idea the network is considering.
