GOG.com Announces GOG Galaxy, Promises DRM-Free Gaming and More
GOG.com announceed GOG Galaxy, an “optional client” for PC gamers during a livestream today. Galaxy will allow gamers to play their games offline.
“With GOG Galaxy, your game will always launch. No online activation required …Being online will always be optional,” said the trailer’s narrator. Users will have to create a profile in order to share achievements they’ve unlocked and will have to be online in order to play online multiplayer games. Galaxy will provide auto-updates for games and options to stay in touch with friends. The trailer’s narrator reiterates that these features will never be forced on users.
“But we will never force it on you, never require you to have it to play your games,” said the trailer’s narrator. Additionally, Galaxy will provide crossplay, which allows gamers to play their games with others who use other online services. No release date has been announced but more information is expected later this year.
