Godzilla vs. Kong: Adam Wingard Attached to Direct
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that filmmaker Adam Wingard, director of You’re Next and The Guest, is now attached to direct Godzilla vs. Kong for Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment. The upcoming monster movie is slated to bring together the two big screen icons for the second time on film. it will be a sequel to the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island.
Per the report, Wingard has closed to a deal to helm the upcoming film. The next Godzilla movie, King of the Monsters, is currently in production and stars Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, and Millie Bobby Brown. Legendary set up a writers room to work on the Godzilla vs. Kong script headed by Terry Rossio, who worked on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Other writers for the project include Patrick Mckay and J.D. Payne, Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, T.S. Nowlin, Jack Paglen, and J. Michael Straczynski.
Plot details for the film are currently being kept hidden. The movie is slated for a May 22, 2020 release. Wingard recently completed work on the upcoming Death Note movie, based on the anime and manga franchise of the same name. It’s slated to debut on Netflix later this year.
Wingard had recently been scouted for some high-profile directing jobs, including Sony’s planned Venom movie, and many executives and producers have wanted to work with him. He’s also said to be a massive fan of creature features, Godzilla and King Kong.
