Girls5eva finds will find a larger audience thanks to Netflix

Girls5eva is one of the most popular comedies on the Peacock streaming service. Peacock has been canceling shows left and right recently. On the start it’s shows have a better Survival rate on Netflix.

Despite a cult following and winning awards, Peacock does not wish to renew this wonderful and underappreciated comedy.

I presume that if Netflix releases the first season of Girls5eva, the show will be cancelled after one season. Given that cancellation rates are lower when a streaming platform is new, pitching the first season of this show Peacock at the time was a wise decision. So it helped the show to have two season.

Now that Peacock is canceling shows, the Girls5eva team is looking for a new home.

Peacock did in allow this comedy to grow a fanbase. Now that there are two seasons available, purchasing it will be a wise decision for Netflix because it will allow them to gain a portion of Peacock’s subscribers. Outside of the United States, the show will find a new audience. Peacock is only available in the United States, so moving it to Netflix may give it a wider audience.

Tina Fey who is the executive producer had a great relationship with Netflix. She had a successful run with the Sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Meredith Scardino, the show creator got the inspiration when Spice girls decided to have a reunion tour.

So what is Girls5eva and why Netflix rescued it?

Girl5seva is a two-season comedy about a one-hit wonder girl group from the early 2000s who had a fair shot at fame after their breakup. It is a show that will make women in their forties that they can still pursue their broken dreams even if they are married, divorced, have children, and their youth has faded.

 

The Group have 5 members. Dawn(Sara Bareilles) is known to be the cool one she is actually nerdy and dorky  outside her persona. In the Present day she is a mom and wife who works at her brother’s pizzeria. Summer (Busy Philipps) is the sexy blond in the group, she have the least singing talent and was only there to be the eye candy.

Despite her appearance she is conservative. Despite having difficulties with the way her husband treats her, Summer stays married because of her Christian faith. Paula (Erika Henningsen and Paula Pell) is the youngest in the group and known to be boy crazy and the play girl. In the present day, she is an overweight, out and proud lesbian dentist. Two different actress plays  Paula as her younger and older self. Wickie (Renée EliseGoldsberry) is the vocal genius of the groups. She is the most talented and that gave her the ego she can be a successful solo artist and made her leave the group. Her Solo career is a failure and she works at airport to shoot birds.

Ashley (Ashley Park) is a former member of multiple girl groups.  She is the glue that keeps them together but she died  in an accident. Her ashes was turned into a bench park.

The four surviving members of the band will reunite after their song got sampled  by a Gen Z rapper.

One of the reasons to watch the show is the music. It has some of the catchiest songs you will ever hear.
