We couldn’t have asked for better news today than this. Animation genius Genndy Tartakovsky, the man behind Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Clone Wars (the original shorts, not the CGI series), is working on a new show. It’s being produced for Adult Swim, and we could get it as soon as six months from now.

The new show is called “Primal” and looks to be in the vein of Jack’s darker exploits. The synopsis:

Primal features a caveman at the dawn of evolution. A dinosaur on the brink of extinction. Bonded by tragedy, this unlikely friendship becomes the only hope of survival in a violent, primordial world.

It already sounds much better than The Good Dinosaur, but so do most things.

Undoubtedly, the greenlighting of this series was influenced by the strong performance of Samurai Jack Season 5, which aired on Adult Swim and Toonami in 2017 and attracted some of the highest ratings the late-night semi-channel has ever registered. It wasn’t a surprise….after Genndy had spent so much time away from the small screen doing Hotel Transylvania films, everyone was as hungry as a T-Rex for some new classic animation from him….preferably without the involvement of Adam Sandler.

Primal has only just been announced, but it must have been under development for quite some time before now, because Adult Swim says they’ll start running its first season in the fall of 2019.
