Funimation And Atsuko Team Up For Black History Month
February is Black History Month, and in honor, Funimation and the clothing maker Atsuko have teamed up to collaborate on a series of designer T-shirts featuring designs from Black artists Mythallica and Hippypotter. The T-shirts are only available from the Atsuko website, and proceeds from their sale will be donated to charities selected by the artists, including Black Lives Matter and The Trevor Project.
Mythallica is the one who chose The Trevor Project, which uses its platform to spread and share resources for Black queer youth. “Being an advocate to the visibility of Black mental health and creating initiatives to make sure that they are being of assistance,” he said, “I truly believe that they are here to help.”
Mikhail Sebastian, aka Hippypotter, is an illustrator, animator and Glyph Award-winning published author who has done work for many visible clients including The Los Angeles Clippers, Carl Jones, Universal Pictures, Noir Caesar, Trinidad James and the United States Census Department. “I chose Black Lives Matter as my organization of choice because I’m someone who’s been able to witness how far the movement has come. We lived through the days where it felt like we were screaming it into a vacuum.”
“Fighting for the most basic levels of equality in a world that refused to acknowledge, or purposefully distorted the truth behind the message of the movement. Fast-forward to today, seeing it become one of the largest civil rights movements in history, is an incredible lesson in perseverance even amongst the greatest of odds. The only way from here, is forward.”
Mythallica and Hippypotter’s T-shirts will remain for sale on Atsuko.com for the next thirty days.
