Frontier Broadband Announces Video Game Contest
Generally, whenever you see a message online that says something like “GET PAID TWO GAZILLION DOLLARS TO SIT AROUND AT HOME IN YOUR UNDERPANTS!!” you should treat it like the scam it is. And we were about to hit the Delete button on a message that hit our inbox today claiming to want to pay us to play video games, but then we noticed the Frontier logo, and we read a bit further.
Frontier Communications is a company that sells broadband internet to businesses. They’ve just launched a contest where the winners will receive the temporary “dream job” of getting paid $2000 for 21 hours of playing video games. (That’s $95.24 an hour….not a bad wage).
“Video games have helped friendships thrive during the pandemic, and now we want to pay Player One and Player Two to keep up the good work,” Frontier says. They point out that a lot of video game characters have anniversary birthdays this year — Donkey Kong, Link, Samus Aran, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Lara Croft, etc — and to celebrate so many birthdays, they’re “looking for a duo of best friends that want to play video games (on our dime) in exchange for $2,000.”
Frontier won’t share what they’re getting out of this, buy my guess is a stress test for their internet pipes, and some free publicity. Each winner will be sent a bag containing a Nintendo Switch Lite, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, which covers all the NES and SNES games Nintendo currently offers. And if you had different games in mind, you’ll also have $2000 to get something else.
You and a friend can enter the contest simultaneously through this page. The contest ends June 18, with the winners being notified around June 25.
