Free League Now Working On A Blade Runner RPG
We write about tabletop game maker Free League a lot around these parts, and based on what they just announced, we don’t expect to stop anytime soon. They’ve acquired the Blade Runner license, which is basically printing money even if the game is bad (but that probably won’t be the case).
In Blade Runner: The Roleplaying Game, each player will assume the role of a detective searching the rainy streets of cyberpunk LA, on the hunt for Replicants. Note that the Blade Runners can be either human or Replicant themselves. The game is set between the first and second movies, so around 2037 — shortly after the Wallace Corporation lets their new Nexus-9 models on the streets, much harder to tell the difference. All gameplay will stem from the Core Rulebook, being written now by Joe LeFavi, CEO of Genuine Entertainment.
“It’s easy to get mesmerized by the noodle-slurping, blaster-shooting neon spectacle of it all, but Blade Runner is a retrofitted world with many layers, and at its core, it’s always been such an evocative yet relatable human drama to me,” says LeFavi. ”In classic noir fashion, it’s never afraid to challenge everyday people to make extraordinary choices and sacrifices, and really delve into that dark and delicious moral gray. That’s why Blade Runner continues to make such a distinct impact on pop culture — not just for its iconic vision of the future, but for its themes and the pursuit and perseverance of humanity at the heart of science fiction at its best.”
Free League now adds Blade Runner to its growing stable of popular licenses including the Alien RPG and a second edition of The One Ring that will be released later this year. The Blade Runner RPG will be released sometime in 2022….more information will be posted as we get it.
