Fox and DC’s “Gotham” Fills Out Cast
For a show that hasn’t even confirmed to move beyond the “pilot” stage, the new “Gotham” TV show being developed by Warner Bros. TV and set to air on Fox is certainly making waves. Five principal cast members have been confirmed over the last couple of days, as per the Hollywood Reporter.
First up is the confirmation that Ben McKenzie has been tapped to play the main character of this prequel, “Smallville”-esque series: the soon-to-be Commissioner James Gordon.
This has been followed up with the news that four additional cast members have been added. From left, Erin Eichards as Barbara Keen, a “sophisticated ER doctor” who will be Gordon’s love interest, Sean Pertwee as Alfred, Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen, Gordon’s superior at Gotham PD, and Robin Lord Taylor as The Penquin.
It won’t stop there. FOX Entertainment President Kevin Reilly has said that more Batman characters will be explored as the series progresses.
“This is not one of the things where you bought a franchise and then none of characters people know,” Reilly said to reporters. “We will follow Bruce Wayne right up until the point where he gets interesting.”
Reilly confirmed that Gotham will be an origin story for Batman as for the future Gotham PD Commissioner. “It’s Gotham teetering on the edge,” he said. “This is all of the classic Batman characters.”
The current plan is reminiscent to “Smallville”, as the series is going to end with Batman putting on the cape and cowl. Hopefully, we won’t take eleven seasons to get to that point like “Smallville” did. Or have its budget slashed to nothing, as “Smallville” did. We’ll see as “Gotham” takes shape . . . or, rather, gets to the point where it’s teetering on the edge, later this year or 2015, depending on how thing shake out.
