No but seriously, whether it's official or not it completely misses the point -- if you buy manga in America, you're still technically buying American since the profits go towards American publishing companies that translate it. :/

It's a shame this promotion is taking a jingoistic approach. Because the core idea of trading in manga for DC Comics has merit.

In the past ten years, manga has had much more success in attracting teen & young adult readers than the American comic book industry has. Which continues to shrink as it's core audience gets older and older, while kids find interest in other things.

If this promotion dropped the "Us vs. Them" overtones and focused more on encouraging the manga audience to expand their interests. I could fully support it.

It should be noted though that this promotion is solely being run by "A Comic Shop". DC Comics themselves has nothing to do with this and would likely having nothing to do with this, even if they were aware of it.

Seriously DC? Why don't you just make Rush Limbaugh editor in chief while you're at it. Or give Frank Miller a couple of crayons with which scribble down his next asinine screed and make an Absolute Edition out of it.

^DC has nothing to do with this. It's all a local comic shop in Florida.

Really, the title of this thread should be changed to reflect that.

Also, even if it WERE DC who did this, its not really offensive. Robama wants us to buy american. Thats kinda been a long running thing people have done for years. Its not playing against asians, its playing for americans.

Also this line "DC Comics and one of their more xenophobic comic shop minions..." Yeah thats totally not biased at all.

Mainstream American comics are just pornographic male versions of soap operas that happens to have somewhat art direction.

There's no such thing in "buying Americuhn" anymore. It's all made in China.

This comic shop in Florida must be extraordinarily retarded as Japan is our ally and we should promote our allies as much as they promote us. Also, mainstream manga isn't porn like mainstream American comics and is more accessible to audiences than the fanfiction mostly spewed by them.

If Mainstream American comics weren't just porno-constantly-rebootified-soap operas with minimal story integrity if at all and actually tried to get the audiences long term outside the middle aged fanbase like they have been doing for the movies, cartoons and TV shows, I might actually give a damn and buy their comics.

I actually love every time those fandoms whine and moan whenever they do a change in the heroes, I loved the whole controversy over Milo Morales and seeing them just having heart attacks over minor issues. My one teacher who's a fan of both companies' work when I suggested a mixture of movie and comic canon to create their own made his blood curdle fierce. I could see it with my eyes while a friend of mine agreed with me.

If this is how the fanbase is , no wonder why they ignore them most of the time. They are flipping psycho some times. They need to realize that change is needed to make comics more accessible to the mass audience and actually make the adult oriented (Fan-oriented) graphic novels totally separate/decrease in number and actually give ones for the teenage and children audience a ton more press.

This is why I love Dark Horse and the Independent ones more. They actually have integrity in their stories and they reflect the ones in the Golden Age/80-90's .

I'd rather support manga publishers than either of the mainstream comic publishers any day as it still employs American jobs ,just without the insanity.

If I were to buy a comic from them , I want the entirety of their staff to be replaced with better ones.

This is why I love the internet. Totally unbias opinions.

Sarcasm is the other reason.
