Director Christopher Landon proved he knew how to blend horror and comedy with expertise through his two Happy Death Day movies. Now he’s back, putting another spin on an often-told tale. Last time it was time loops; this time it’s body-swapping.
Freaky Friday has been remade over and over through the years, mostly by Disney themselves, but they probably wouldn’t go for this kind of take. This time, in what’s just being called Freaky, the body-swap happens between a serial slasher and the hapless teenager he was trying to kill.
The protagonist is Millie, a plain-looking (not really, but just go with it) student who nobody ever notices. She doesn’t get invited to parties and the boys walk right past her. “I’m the kind of person who gets killed off first in a horror movie,” she says, right before that nearly happens.
