Yeah, that thought terrifies me. If you've never been to the website notalwaysright.com and looked in their Twilight section, you should. The saddest part is that it isn't just prepubescent girls. *shudders*

I knew Twilight fans were retarded, but jesus christ! That's like a new level of idiocy. :redface2:

That's funny but also true. I also just don't get how they can call these vampires. I mean it's been said in this thread the reasons why they are NOT vampires. I know the vampire thing has been done to death, but there are unique ways to go about it. Take the series of books by Brian Lumley, Necroscope. Those take the entire vampire thing and expand, change, and twist the vampire thing... But the core ideas are still there. Sparkles and **** don't a vampire make.

As far as I'm concerned you can do pretty much whatever you want with vampires as long as there is still horror. Anne Rice popularized the modern pretty-boy vampire thing, but her work was still steeped in horror and she left in plenty of very good reasons why a vampire was not something you wanted to be.

In the Twilight books, being a vampire means you can spend eternity in blissful, super-powered perfection with the people you love, without having to sacrifice any of those pesky things like the beauties of nature in daylight or, y'know, your soul. So why did Edward not want to turn Bella right from the outset? What was all the damn angst about?

That musical is just all kinds of epic.

I think the angst in this series is just there to be there. There is no reason for it.

Meh, I watched Twilight voluntarily to see what the hype was about, & then watched the sequel because I was forced by some incredibly bored people. Generally, here's what I think.

1) Meyers was only using the vampire device to write a cheesy romance novel, which was unique.
2) women like cheesy romance novels because of half-naked men & sex, reguardless of how badly written it is- it's basically the same reason men watch porn, reguardless of how cheesy & senseless it is.
3) Unique romance story + horny women= success

The only reason it's so successful is because it's really the only one of it's kind. I will say, though, that there are major plot holes, the characters are fucking morons & nothing after book 1 would have happened were it not for Bella's idiocy. Not to mention, the idea of using one genre to gain popularity for another is incredibly misleading & moronic in the first place...:redface2:

I have to watch an ep of Forever Knight, Angel, and Buffy just to cleanse myself of this nonsense.
