Meh, I watched Twilight voluntarily to see what the hype was about, & then watched the sequel because I was forced by some incredibly bored people. Generally, here's what I think.
1) Meyers was only using the vampire device to write a cheesy romance novel, which was unique.
2) women like cheesy romance novels because of half-naked men & sex, reguardless of how badly written it is- it's basically the same reason men watch porn, reguardless of how cheesy & senseless it is.
3) Unique romance story + horny women= success
The only reason it's so successful is because it's really the only one of it's kind. I will say, though, that there are major plot holes, the characters are fucking morons & nothing after book 1 would have happened were it not for Bella's idiocy. Not to mention, the idea of using one genre to gain popularity for another is incredibly misleading & moronic in the first place...:redface2:
