The original plan on Disney+ was to run Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the first Marvel limited series, with Wandavision following it. Instead, delays occurred and Wanda was ready earlier, so it wound up going first. It appears to have been a wise decision in hindsight. Wandavision was a big hit, Falcon less so. It’s possible America might have felt differently if a grounded military story came BEFORE a fantastical, out-there narrative of witches and sitcom parodies, but…now that we’ve tasted steak, we can’t go back to Cheetos for dinner.
Fortunately for both Disney and us, the zaniness will return with Marvel’s very next series. Thor’s scoundrel brother is getting his own show and from the looks of the trailer released today, it’s going to be great. The story for this one stems directly from a plothole in Avengers Endgame: Loki grabbed the Tesseract and split, teleporting to who knows where…and wasn’t seen for the rest of the film.
