In October 2021, Syfy Channel and Shout! Studios released a remake of the 1982 horror film Slumber Party Massacre. The original film was meant to be a satire of slasher films , until Roger Corman told director Amy Holden Jones to make it a more run-by-the-numbers slasher film with all the lovely tropes of the genre. When Suzanne Keilly was hired to write the screenplay for the remake, she did was Jones and writer Rita Mae Brown originally intended while pulling a gender reversal on two major horror tropes. Director Danishka Esterhazy shot the film in South Africa with a South African cast in 18 days in March-April 2021. It has a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I even had the chance to interview two of the actors from the film.
