The Boy Who Cried Jesus! (May 21 2011 thread)

I noticed that there wasn't a thread (or if there was, it's pretty much dead) about the rapture on May 21 of this year. I made this thread because I want to know what everyone thinks of it, much like that 2012 thread someone made.

I personally think it's bullocks. If Jesus is the loving and kind man in the bible, he wouldn't do something like pick and choose which people he would save. No, he'd save everyone. He died for people he didn't even know! Also, getting dates from complicated calculations, isn't that what Homer did? (I do remember an episode from the Simpsons where Homer predicted the Rapture via calculations and was wrong the first time but after making a change, he was right. Harold predicted the end and was wrong, could he be right the second time? :O_O:)

Dude, there are 2 things that you do not bring up in a conversation: One is Politics an the other is Religion. You broke the second rule.

Wait, in a conversation on this site? If so, close this thread. This was an honest mistake. >_< {No wonder why there weren't topics about this.}

If you mean in real-life conversation, then should we carry on?

Nice post!!
A bunch of fundie circles have decided the world's gonna end up May 21. This happens every so often, the world doesn't end, life goes on.

I think the guy should read the book "99 Reasons Why No One Knows When Christ Will Return." As a Christian myself, it's a bogus since date-setting is dangerous and very destructive to the believer's behavior.

Christ's return? No one knows. It's ANY TIME.

Bottom line, do all the good you can in this lifetime, unless you don't care whatever happens to your soul in the afterlife, if you even believe in the afterlife.

Didn't we get a prediction before that the world would end in Y2K or Year 2000? And it didn't happen.
And I wholeheartedly agree with what Shingunn and musashi said:thumbs:

Past predictions courtesy of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapture

# 1844 - William Miller predicted Christ would return between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844, then revised his prediction, claiming to have miscalculated Scripture, to October 22, 1844. The realization that the predictions were incorrect resulted in a Great Disappointment. Miller's theology gave rise to the Advent movement. The Baha'is believe that Christ did return as Miller predicted in 1844, with the advent of The Báb, and numerous Miller-like prophetic predictions from many religions are given in William Sears book, Thief in The Night.
# 1914, 1918, 1925, 1942 and 1975 - Dates set for the end by the Jehovah's Witnesses
# 1981 - Chuck Smith predicted that Jesus would probably return by 1981.
# 1988 - Publication of 88 Reasons why the Rapture is in 1988, by Edgar C. Whisenant.
# 1989 - Publication of The final shout: Rapture report 1989, by Edgar Whisenant. More predictions by this author appeared for 1992, 1995, and other years.
# 1992 - Korean group "Mission for the Coming Days" predicted October 28, 1992 as the date for the rapture.
# 1993 - Seven years before the year 2000. The rapture would have to start to allow for seven years of the Tribulation before the Return in 2000. Multiple predictions.
# 1994 - Pastor John Hinkle of Christ Church in Los Angeles predicted June 9, 1994. Radio evangelist Harold Camping predicted September 6th, 1994.
# 2011 - Harold Camping's revised prediction has May 21, 2011 as the date of the rapture.
# 2060 - Sir Isaac Newton proposed, based upon his calculations using figures from the book of Daniel, that the Apocalypse could happen no earlier than 2060.

Wait, we're actually discussing this?

...why? We gonna start discussing the scientific validity of witchcraft or alchemy next?

Fighting evil makes me thirsty
Pastors and church-goers in my area have been spouting, "The end is near!" since I was a kid. My real dad shares that sentiment as well.

Oh well. Let them prepare for the end that isn't coming while the rest of us live life.
