Are the bonus features really worth the extra cost? I mean, I remember liking Zedd's Monster Heads (that was the one with the Halloween type party, right?), but I just do not know if the set is really worth $220. Should I just watch them on Netflix instead?

Sure, If You Want To Wait ...

Are the bonus features really worth the extra cost? I mean, I remember liking Zedd's Monster Heads (that was the one with the Halloween type party, right?), but I just do not know if the set is really worth $220. Should I just watch them on Netflix instead? Should I wait for Time Life to put the set on sale? I just do not know how often I would end up rewatching these.

That depends on whether you trust Netflix and Nikelodeon to keep running Power Rangers. If, for one reason or another, they stop, then you could be in the same situation a lot of sci-fi fans were in the '70's & '80's - depending on the whim of the local TV stations offering these programs. Even these days, with cable, not all programs are being broadcast. Speaking for myself, I'd like to have my own copies. Especially considering that for all except Operation Overdrive, we never got a complete season of Power Rangers in the U.S. Often, we were lucky if we got even half of all the eps for a particular season. And, it was SOP to put just 4 eps on a disc. Finally, keep in mind that if these sets sell well, that will encourage Saban and Shout to get the remaining seasons out that much more quickly ... EDIT: And, consider that if these go out of print and become rare collector's items, you could end up paying a LOT more than $220!

Here my dilemna. I'm worried I'm going to spend all of this money on these sets, watch them once, and then in 5 years wonder why I bought them as I have with a multitude of DVDs and BDs I went through over the summer. I have sold over 300 discs in the last three months.

I don't really have that problem with DVDs. I usually buy about 2-5 sets a month & end up selling less than 10 a year. My last culling only dropped 5 in all from my collection. Plus, since I operate a Youtube channel that is supposed to be for media review, I can count any DVD I buy as a work expense on my tax return & get money back. But if you are worried about something like that, I'd just grab the sets in-store. I'll also say that those box sets may end up in stores once all the components within them come out seperately & the prices might be lower if that happens.

I will say, though, that Zedd's Monster heads was released on VHS at one point & you can buy that & have it converted, if you have the tech.

You may know that Netflix streams the international masters of the episodes, and a few of them are different from the domestic masters. People informed Shout! Factory DVD producer Brian Ward about this issue, and he went out of his way to get his hands on as many of the domestic masters he could get. I also made a list of the episodes on these sets that have differences between their domestic and international versions, which have their domestic masters on the sets, along with comparison videos that were made, although some of these differences might not really bother you.

Just a bit of trivial information here, but the master of "Beauty and the Beast" that's on the set is actually the international master with the dubbed Trini voices from the domestic master (which was in too poor of a condition in the way of visuals to be used for the DVDs) copied and pasted onto it.

Some more things I'll mention about the DVDs is that the MMPR episodes lack "today on" or "last time" on segments, and Zeo's two-part "King For a Day" lack the "next time on" and "previously on" segments. The Turbo, Space, and Lost Galaxy sets have them, although PRIS' "Rangers Gone Psycho" has them both missing.

There's a little flaw in MMPR's three interview features (Morphin Time, Morphenomenal Cast, and The Fans Power Up) where the spoken words don't match peoples' mouths, although that can be remedied by rewinding a little, and everything is synchronized the way it ought to be. "Lord Zedd's Monster Heads" and "The Official Fan Club Video" have brief pauses at a certain point, but that tends to be common with DVDs, although a bit jarring.

Honestly, I can care less about the previously on and today stuff. They are just time wasters.

Thanks for the info though.

Thanks for this news, Storm Eagle! Quite frankly, I'm appalled by the fact that the original domestic copies were not carefully preserved by Saban. That ... carelessness ... is the reason why the BBC lost several of the early Doctor Who episodes. Especially as quickly as Power Rangers first necame a hit, and then an institution.

There are other episodes with better domestic masters that didn't make it to the set. It really would have been nice if they got the domestic master of "Welcome to Venus Island", since it's the one with all the dubbed lines from Jason and Zack. Some of the masters apparently got lost in the transition to Disney, but you're right. They really should have been more careful with that. I'm hoping like hell that they'll be able to track down the pre-9/11 versions of Time Force episodes.

Anyway, I'm personally glad I got this set. I was able to knock out seven seasons in one fell swoop, and I've got the direct-to-video specials and TV specials on a better format.

Pre 9/11? Did they edit Time Force?

What is this about Venus Island with Zack and Jason?
