Scientists Find More Water Than in All the Oceans Locked in Rock in the Earth's Mantle

Scientists have found what they say appears to be a reservoir of water three times the volume of all of the Earth's oceans.

The discovery might provide an answer as to where the water on the Earth came from in the first place. There is a theory that it might have come from comets, but, if this water is really there, it supports another theory that it just sort of seeped out. Scientists have theorized the water would be there for decades, but this is the first time someone has found it....

A few years ago, they found water on the moon, and the moon's supposed to be made up of just more of the earth's mantle. Could the moon have similar grains of water stored in its own mantle?

I suppose though that we'll continue to get drinkable water from the water cycle that we have active, cleaning up water pollution, desalinating, and irrigating. This is cool to know, but how it would affect the quality of life for people is usually the first thing to consider. It could be effortful and damaging to the environment to squeeze these water grains out for times of drought, for instance, but now we know the option's there...
