In April of 2020, San Diego Comic-Con officials made the announcement that the Con set to take place that July would be made virtual. Panels would be livestreamed, attendance would be in front of computer or phone monitors, and you would have to bring your own pretzel snacks. This year, the officials made the decision a month earlier…to the surprise of no one, SDCC 2021 will also be a virtual affair.
“We have made the challenging decision to postpone Comic-Con 2021 as an in-person gathering until our 2022 dates, and once again hold this year’s celebration as the free online Comic-Con@Home,” says Comic-Con International. “The past several months have taken a great toll on both families and friends, and we hope this effort is a small move toward a return to gather as a community to not only celebrate popular art, but also friendship, education, and the enduring spirit of the fandom that is so much a part of Comic-Con.”
