Rest In Peace, Kouen Okumura

Veteran actor Kouen Okumura died of respiratory failure during the early hours of December 24, it has been learned. He passed away at a hospital in Musashino, Tokyo. He was 79 years old.

Okumura, whose real first name was Susumu, started out as a theater actor in the early '50s. He landed his first television drama role a few years later. For the next several decades, Okumura continued to play countless supporting roles on both the big screen and the small screen. One of his last performances was in director Rodo Seji's movie "I am." (starring Asami Mizukawa), which begins its limited run on January 23.
