Preserving figure help

I don't know if this goes here so move it if needed.
Anyways I was going through a box of my old toys and found an old Knights of the Zodiac Shiryu, you know the one with armor you could take off. Well I noticed it was covered with that shiny paint that falls off if you so much has look at it wrong and was wondering, could I preserve the armor's paint if I used an acid free gloss? (Krylon)
