Yeah I love that movie, it's unjustly critized amongst the many japanese porn fans but ****, that movie had passion and heart and good music. Best movie ever.

Hi guys. I'm the biggest Power Rangers/Battlizer fan. (Don't ask about my troubles with the Super Sentai faithful at Youtube!) Even though Nick's armor hasn't shown, I would like to see Overdrive's Battlizer. If I was in charge, I would have a Japanese-American actor as the Red Ranger. (I know, the productions' in New Zeland, so that's a big factor against my idea.)

We never had an Asian Red Ranger before, and to have a Japanese character in Power Rangers would sound cool.

I'm not trying to be rude, RSR, but Ninja Storm's Cam's last name is Watanabe, making him the 1st Japanese Power Ranger.

Trini's last name is Kwan, which, I believe, makes the 1st Asian Ranger Chinese. You can hear that during the 1st 6 minutes of MMPR's Power Transfer.

Operation Overdrive...I like it  . I just hope they can match the same type of speed of the episodes in PROO (an odd acronym) as they do in Boukenger.

DCP?! Hmm... this is interesting. BanDai America has always made the toys for Power Rangers. Now before anybody is confused let me explain something:

In 1993 when MMPR premiered, BanDai America was a wholly owned subsidary of Bandai Co. Ltd. sometimes mistakenly referred to as "Bandai Japan" which is the company's nickname. BCL ran BA up untill 4x4=16 (thanks Al) finished its run and production was moved to NZ.

Due to the complaining, bickering, and flat-out "bitching" between Disney and FOX, companies that were originally going to share credit for PR, Disney used its Iron fist to get its way and took over the Power Rangers franchise in 2003. Power Rangers Ninja Storm premiered on ABC Kids with abysmal ratings although it faired much better on Cable (this is the primary reason that Disney now premieres the show on Jetix/Toon Disney -- the ABC Kids slot wasn't profitable.) where it was selling toys quite well. When PRNS Premiered, BanDai America was owned by Bandai Co. Ltd. about a month later their "about us" page was quietly changed to read that Bandai America was a wholly owned subsidary of the Walt Disney Co. Inc and made no reference to Bandai Co. Ltd. Around this same time BanDai Entertainment Inc. (Gundam, Outlaw Star, Mi-HiME) recieved their own DVD press and cut off ties with Pioneer/Geneon as their pressing studio. (Bandai would press discs through Pioneer prior to this.) The singal was clear: Disney was in charge now, in charge of the toys, in charge of the company, and in charge of their subsidaries. They had assimilated them as if the Disney-borg just shot some nanoprobes into Bandai's left arm.

This is what confuses me. WHY does this say DCP and not Bandai America Inc.? I have the SPD press release sitting in front of me and the fast facts note that it's BanDai America's #1 property -- ditto for the fairly empty (plot-wise) Mystic Force press sheet which had virtually no information on the show on it.

Now I hate to theorize here but it seems like one of three things happened to explain the lack of a press sheet, all of which are logical:

1. Bandai America is no more or has been sold off/back to Bandai Co. Ltd., and the products are being marketed under the Disney Consumer Products brand name as a result of this. Perhaps Bandai is focusing on their Anime lines and leaving their Disney-related lines to Disney. Disney isn't one for major press releases, so they don't bother with a sheet.

2. Disney decides they don't like press sheets giving away plot lines a year in advance and decides not to show them. They monitor RB and similar sites (including this one most likeley) for feedback and see the press sheets online. They decide to make everyone looking at the sheet sign an NDA/NCA not to distribute it. They release it in a stuffy little room to only the companies they intend to do business with -- no press and no floor demonstration.

3. Seeing how people went insane when they found out about Tommy's return, the return of Ron Wasserman's music, and the subsequent loss thereof, Disney is worried about giving too much away about this season. If there's a major event, they don't want people to get their hopes too high only to hate the event rather than love it, and they don't want it spoiled, as a result they don't show any Operation: Overdrive information. If Kalish got his way for a film, or if DVD Boxes are indeed planned (as unlikely as this may be) than I could see Disney trying to keep quiet. They don't want angry fans banging down their doors.

Now there was an interesting rumor awhile back that Nintendo wanted to buy out BanDai presumably to make Nintendo-related toys. (Note that Gunpei Yokoi, creator of the Game Boy eventually left to work for BanDai, so Nintendo did have connections to them before, originally as a second party developer for the NES.) I can't confirm this rumor, nor can I find much news about it, but if it were true, it could explain why DCP is releasing the toys and not BanDai America.

I think the bigger question now is why Disney Consumer Products is releasing PR Toys and Bandai America isn't, and if Bandai America isn't, is there a chance of increased quality? Remember, the Licensing show is for toy companies -- ArtAsylum has been busy as usual, but Bandai seemed to be AWOL this year. There was no Gundam annoucement, no new Power Rangers stuff, and DCP made a note of PR at the show. This is indeed something we should keep our eyes on. It seems odd to me that DCP just "took the license" from Bandai without reason, especially since they own bandai.
