Xbox Modding Resources edited: 3/11/2004 9:06:01 AM
Here's where I bought my chip from:
http://system-mods.com
This is the mod-chip I bought:
http://shop.system-mods.com/product.asp?3=100
It's completely solderless and supposodly easy to install.
From the reviews I've read, it's supposed to be a good chip. Not top of the line, but a bit cheaper.

Here's the only place you'll need to go for xbox modding resources:
http://xbox-scene.com

I'll probably try installing my chip this weekend so I'll follow up and let ya know how it goes.

Posting it here to use later.

Right now, my Live subscription is out and I didn't play nearly enough. I'm behind on a **** ton of shows and hate watching them on my computer, soooo... I'm gonna mod the hell outta my Xbox so I can catch up on Toku from the comfort of my Danger Room.

If anyone's got advice to drop, lemme know!

Sorry JC, I forgot to email you this past weekend, but it would've been the same info anyways. Looks like the place I bought it from no longer exists. Not sure where you should buy one from since the other import sites I buy from no longer sell chips after getting their asses sued. You should probably check out Xbox-scene, I think they keep a list or at least dicuss in the forums which sites are legit and safe to order from.

As for which chip, I don't think the one I bought is available anymore. The latest version of it would be the Xecuter 3 I believe. Definitely get a solderless one though, it was a nightmare soldering the chip into my Xbox and it nearly didn't work. It'll be a little more expensive but well worth it.

Thanks! You finally listened to it?
We were all like, this'll be a great surprise! and then we didn't think you even heard it. :P

Been tired, busy, broken computer, blah, blah, blah... I think I was going to say something but then I had to go to that convention too.

It wasn't *too* big a surprise. MC mentions he might not do a PC segment, you guys explode FOR a PC segment and soon after a mysterious team is formed to do PC Gaming.... saw it coming, glad it came and looking forward to hearing the rest of the show at lunch. :anime:

Yeah, that's the one I'd probably go with. Just make sure you get the right adapter for your model number xbox. I don't remember exactly how to tell, but xbox-scene will be able to tell you.

The xbox hard drive is between 5-10gb depending on the model. In other words it can hold jack and shite. If you plan to fill it full of video files, emulators and ripped games, definitely upgrade it. (not that I would condone such a thing ;) )

Changing the hard drive will prevent you from connecting to Live however. Theoretically you should be able to swap the old hard drive back in and put your mod chip in stealth mode to get back on Live if you ever want to.

I've not much interest in LIVE 'til I get a 360 and get down with some HALO 3 action. I've had enough so I'm ready to hax my box.

Got any recommendations on the size of hard drive I should get?

Oh yeah.... does that mean I lose all the saved games on my old Xbox hard drive? :disappoin

I'm thinking about modding my xbox to rip games to it to help with load times. I'd only rip one or two games at once, though. Like KOTOR right now.

The only problem is that I've heard that modding your xbox makes you unable to connect to Live, and I like my updates and online play on occasion.

As for the hard drive... do you have to buy a special sized hard drive, or are they standard PC hard drives? What's the max size the xbox will recognize, etc.

I do know that it would prolly negate your Live service for good. Since I don't use mine and won't be again 'til the 360, I'm willing to sacrifice it.

Not sure about the other stuff tho.

I just want all those arcade classics on my console and the ability to play videos.
