It was never seriously considered. We just didn't have the budget to make new suits, so we didn't spend the time coming up with new characters.
That being said, when we thought we might get to make an original movie, we did talk about redesigning the costumes for our main characters. We also talked some about bringing in new characters, but it never got to the planning stages, just the "Wouldn't it be cool if we could," stage.
