It was thirty years ago that the trendiest writers and artists in the comic book business became disgruntled with the Big Two method of doing business and struck out on their own, founding Image Comics. It was a big risk, but it paid off, with the brand remaining an established presence in the comics market to this day. But now that Image is 30, they’re taking a moment to gaze back at their roots.
We speak of the sixth issue of Scorched, an anniversary-type series in its own right that unites classic Image characters Spawn, Cy-Gor, Overtkil, Redeemer, Gunslinger, Haunt, Soul Crusher, Medieval Spawn, She-Spawn, and others in one super-team (that’s a loooot of 90s-sounding names, isn’t it?) The sixth issue will be especially nostalgia-heavy with a four-variant cover inspired by Jim Lee’s famous X-Men #1. Each cover contains a stand-alone scene, but when laid together produce one gigantic battle.
