Let's create our own superhero universe, shall we?

(Is this the right forum for this? Ah well, here goes nothing!)

So...yeah...pretty much what is says on the tin :anime:

Having recently gone on a lengthy marathon of Justice League Unlimited and the (new-ish?) Avengers cartoon Earth's Mightiest Heroes, a thought came to mind. Why don't we have some fun and create our own continuity of heroes, villains, organizations, species, etc.?

Now, this isn't meant to be some sort of RP event, this is just a fun little project that anyone who wants can chip in on. If someone creates an Avengers/Justice League style team, add a character to it! If someone creates a "Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters" of our own, add a member to it! Someone have a nice hero or villain you like? Create a foe or ally for them!

A few points of note:

1: If you want to create a design, there are several online character creators available. This is the one I've used.

2: If you see that someone has already created an organization or group that has a similar role or identity to an idea of yours, please consider just using that instead. If we get too many groups, things will just get chaotic. So if you have a character you want to add to a team, just quote the team and/or its characters and merge away, provided others are fine with it

3: If you can help it, don't create a Gary Stu. No one likes being told that there's a character who's just plain better than theirs because someone else says so, especially when we make the characters we feel like. So while you can state that your character is so and so strong, keep it vague enough for people to form their own opinions on relative power levels, unless it becomes a widely accepted opinion.

To kick us off, here's my idea for a Green Lantern Corps/Nova Corps style organization, and Earth's member of it.

[HIDE]The Archivist Order

An ancient and mysterious organization of scholars said to be as old as life itself. The Order's origins are shrouded in legend, but its purpose is crystal clear; to gather and preserve all knowledge in existence. Their Eternal Archive is located outside of space and time, in a pocket dimension of potentially infinite size that is composed of a single, impossibly vast building, an arcane and mystical library containing all the known information in the Universe.

Each species in the known Universe has a single member belonging to the Order, a hereditary position given to those chosen for their thirst to learn and discover new information. It is this person's duty to observe and document their species' existence, history, achievements and events, adding it to the ever-growing stores of knowledge contained within the Eternal Archive.

It is far from uncommon for a member of the Order to find him or herself in some sort of conflict, for it is an ever-present need; to continue their documentation of the universe, they must protect the species they observe. Not to mention the need to defend the Eternal Archive itself; who knows what one might learn if one were to gain access to the truly ancient tomes contained within?

To this end, each Archivist is gifted with an array of magical powers to aid their tasks. Telepathy and telekinesis are their primary powers, and the ones that see the most use, allowing for priceless utility and assistance. They also possess more esoteric abilities, such as dimensional travel, flight, energy projection and limited superhuman physical qualities. All Archivists are identifiable by their uniform, a personal and customizable robe with a common colour theme and headgear.

Earth's Archivist, Gabriel Newman

A twenty-five-year old student from Washington state. Ever since he first learned to read, his prodigy-like mind was driven by an almost insatiable curiosity and drive to educate himself on all there was to learn in the world. In him, Earth's then-Archivist Helen Ramone found a worthy successor to her powers. Visiting Newman during one of his many late-night reading sessions in the library he worked at, the aging Archivist spirited him away to the Eternal Archive, changing his life forever.

Where most potential Archivists from across the Universe were shocked, or stunned, at the revelations given to them, Newman' enthusiasm and excitement over this opportunity amused his colleagues and superiors alike. While still young a young member of the Archivist Order, he has swiftly risen in both notoriety and respect due to his boundless energy and determination to discover not only the universe's future, but also its misty and near-forgotten past.

Like the thousands of other members of the Order, Newman has access to the full powers granted to him by the mysterious being known only as the Librarian. Like other Archivists he possesses an array of spell-like abilities, extensive telepathic and telekinetic potential, and a modicum of superhuman strength granted by his personalized Archivist uniform. From his apartment, he can access the pocket dimensions containing both the Earth Archive, which he himself maintains diligently, and the vast Eternal Archive itself.[/HIDE]
