The hugs cured them from Ganma possession. That possession was the primary cause as to why they were doing bad and/or self-destructive things. I don't see how that's much different from, say, Wizard going into people's Underworlds to defeat their Phantoms or Fourze who would free people from the influence of an Astro Switch and then declare them friends?

Oh don't get me wrong the whole Fourze declaring friends with everyone was absurd as well, that's also one of my pet hates.

Wizard suffered a similar problem with the "I'm the last hope" spam, although the idea of going into Underworlds and fighting Phantoms was fine.

But saying a hug frees people from possession is stretching it a bit.
