I wouldn't call it that strange. The only reasons I haven't wondered why they haven't done it sooner was because Skylanders wasn't Japanese in origin and that Japan really hasn't latched onto the idea yet - the idea itself seems to lend itself to the MO of how toku these days are pretty toy heavy, and it could aim at both collectors and kids alike if they do it well enough. I really do hope this becomes a running thing, so long as it doesn't interfere with their other game series (and the game itself doesn't suck) anyway.

On that note, made a thread for it in the Starcade last night if anyone's interested in talking about it further, since this is a video game thing and all.

On the note of Drive, do we know what the quality of the cars will be like? I know ToQ's trains are supposed to be nice to appeal to train fans - do you guys think/do we know if that will be the same here?

The Gashapon versions of the Shift Cars will have metallic paint and wheels that can move. They'll probably be made out of plastic or something. I wonder if the DX versions will be die cast like Hot Wheels.

Now that would be pretty neat. Those wouldn't interfere with the transformation device working though, would they?

I don't think die cast parts will affect the infrared connection or other parts of the Driver. I imagine they're also using a peg system similar to the ToQ Changer for the various Shift Cars.
