Insane Wushu Demonstration

I used to hit up Bilang all the time. Wushu is my favorite martial arts school to study/train at. No belts, no ranks, just training of the body in the base forms of martial arts and weapons arts. There's nothing better when you can say to a black belt, "that belt doesnt prove your skills. Your actions do."

Most kids and men relax their training after they hit Black Belt. Thinking 'that's it. Im awesome. I dont need to work as hard anymore'. And they lose some of their training in the process.

In most Wushu schools, there is only the students and the master. No ranks beyond that. And you're always learning. It never becomes "I just need to learn this form so I can get my next belt".

I think most people just knock on Wushu because it's really more of a performance art. Some don't consider it a martial art at all; I'm kind of in the middle. As an athletic display it's superior, but I probably wouldn't be too worried if I for some reason had to fight a Wushu practicioner. But that's a whole other topic entirely... the skill shown here is simply top-notch.

A proper Wushu student would mostly likely hold his/her own in a match or fight. But I can't say for certain since there are a lot of schools that strictly train you in a fighting art. And Wushu doesn't focus strictly on just fighting an opponent. But it does include weapons training so it's not an impossibility

Bolt, Saiko, you guys seem to be missing out on some main points of Wushu. Many people seem to stereotype Wushu only by Taolu (Forms) where in actuallity it consists of 3 aspects in the art:

The internal arts aspect we see in Tai Chi Chuan/Chi Kung, the sports/performance aspect in Taolu/forms (Open hand/Weapons/Sparring forms), and the fighting application/sport aspect of Wushu that we see in San Shou/San Da.

That's what I love about Wushu. There's a little bit of everything for everyone in it. There's Taolu for ALL levels from beginner to expereinced Wushu players. Tai Chi can be learnt by both young and old people. And San Shou is for those who wanna get more real life fighting application out of Wushu.

With that said, the video was awesome. Gotta love those China Wushu carpets. So soft. I tried one out when I visited the Hong Kong Team and almost fell asleep on the thing. My jumps felt so much more light as well and it was really easy to land my Tornado splits than on these hard Tatami in Tokyo...

But yeah, here's one of my favorite Wushu Broadsword videos.

I was strictly talking about sport Wushu as seen in the vid.

Pretty much all of Wushu is a sport, but it just depends on which aspect is displayed though. The stuff in the video only seemed to have focused on Taolu. Even though the guys are sparring, it's choreographed so it counts as Taolu and not San Shou.

I guess I should add for those that don't know, that San Shou is basically a Chinese version of kickboxing but mixed with a few Chinese grappling arts. San Shou and Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do are kinda similar to each other.

Yeah I used to compete Sanshou for about 4 years. It's wicked stuff. Sanshou fighters have some of the best standup grappling I've ever seen and they routinely take out Muay Thai fighters.
