You know Hex Studios as the makers and distributors of low-budget indie horror, but they’ve expanded recently into publishing with a new division of their company called Hex Arcana. The publisher marked its first release last year with “The Book of Beastly Creatures,” a short story anthology. But they’d like to expand.
Hex is now taking on an interesting project: the revival of old pulp horror paperback novels, and we mean that literally. Their first release will be a deluxe reprint of “The Sound of His Horn,” a horror novel by Sarban first published in 1952. It takes place in an alternate 1950s where the Nazis won World War II and people are hunted for sport. These old pulp novels were known for their deliciously macabre and over-the-top covers, and Hex enlisted painter Lisa Falkenstern to create a new one for this release. There will also be a new foreword by scholar Kim Newman.
