Venus, the golden world that is in many ways like our own, same size, same gravity the main difference is Earth supported life, while Venus was unlivable for any creature known to man, at least that used to be the case. A comet codenamed Mjolnir collided with the planet, and created a change in the world that no one could have anticipated. The toxicity of the atmosphere dispersed, added moisture which created seas and altered it's rotation to match that of Earth's. While still very imperfect Venus was now capable of being terraformed, and inhabitable. With the previous efforts in the colonization of Mars being a success, it wasn't long before countries began scrambling to send colonial expeditions to the newly livable world. The two major players in this colonization race were the United States, backed by various European countries and Russia with assistance from China. Both were aided by the German company EisenWorks thanks to them providing both with their efficient exploration Landzähmer mecha ,which had proven to be a big help during the Mars colonization project, and the means to produce more upon arriving, and in return got nice big fat paychecks.

Even with the many leaps in progress Earth had made in recent times things like poverty, third world countries, overcrowding and difficulty finding decent work continued to exist, which made these colonial fleets all the more appealing to many people. Though not all who signed up for the voyage were disadvantaged, there were some who craved the potential excitement, some who wanted a fresh start, and some that just wanted to get away from annoying relatives. Regardless of the reasons the rosters of both fleets filled with those from all over the globe willing to go off into space.

It was a race between the two groups to get their first, after all whoever claimed Venus could shape it as they wished and potentially profit from it further down the road. To the point where both expeditions launched on the same day, traveled at the same rate while constantly outdoing one another and even reached the planet within minutes of each other.

Eighty years later....

Both of the initial settlements have grown considerably on their respective continents, become large nation like entities. To the north is Phosphora, the result of the Russian expedition, and to the south is Hespera the result of the American and European colonization endeavor. Between the two is a large expanse that is largely un-terraformed and untamed area known as the Wild Zone, a popular hiding ground for the less savory elements that have cropped up over time. Contact and supply rops from earth have become limited due to the distance and possibly from earth being able to spare the extra supply, and as a result resources have been growing thin, with more and more disputes over which country gets them happening more frequently. Making matters even more tense is ever decreasing amount of free territory, and with the nationstates already being terraformed, the idea of invasion looks more appealing to certain individuals.

Our story brings us to Artemia City of Hespera, were a group of lander pilots in training will find their lives irrevocably changed by the events that are to come....

Setting Info:

The Inhabitable Venus: While not quite perfectly Earth like, Venus is quite livable after terraforming efforts on both sides. The sky is still quite dangerous, causing air travel to become not only inefficient but dangerous as well. Water on Venus is still acidic and must be processed before being considered drinkable, and in the case of a rain storm cities have retractable domes in order to minimize damage. Landers of varying kinds are widely employed by both sides. Food is being grown but it can only be grown in certain places and not always in the needed amounts.

The Two Nations:

Dominion of Phosphora:

Capital: Verena City

Leader: Nero Maximoff

The Nation founded by the Russian Colonization expedition. Operating like an efficient well oiled Machine Phosphoran territory expanded fairly quickly early on. In some ways it's actually more advanced than it's rival nation. Most Phosphoran cities look identical, being made up of clusters of sky scrapers that house it's many citizens. The central government is highly involved with the lives of those within it's borders, micromanaging them for maximum efficiency. The leaders, and most of the citizens see the Hesperans as frivolous wasters of precious few resources that could eventually lead to the depletion of the colonies. For this they have been eyeing Hespera and attempting to convince them to adopt their systems for their perceived greater good. Rumor has it they are developing a new form of Lander.

Hespera:

Capital: Cassini City

Leader: Jonathan McClane

The Nation founded by the American and European endeavor, it is far less rigid than it's neighbor. It's cities tend to not be as tightly packed, and they have roughly two thirds of the population of Phosphora, and things aren't as tightly regulated. While not expanding as quickly it has managed to claim a sizable portion of land as it's own. Thanks to the rising tensions between the two nations, as well as preparing for plans to go into the Wild Zone, they have been training potential pilots, and refitting Landers for Combat purposes. While they hope it doesn't come to that, its better to be safe than sorry.

The Wild Zone:
Unterraformed, and dangerous this area has become a favored hiding place for the less than savory elements that have appeared on Venus. Due to the inhospitable nature of the area, and weather that wreaks havoc ith Lander radars it has been difficult to try and expel those dangerous elements, or even estimate how many are out there. It is mainly controlled by three gangs, The Firebirds, The Reapers and the Ogres each known for a signature type of Crasher.

Mecha Info:

Landzähmers: Developed by EisenWorks industries, the Landzähmer is a general purpose exploration mecha, able to transform between the fast vehicle mode, and a bipedal robot mode for traveling over rough terrain. Far stronger than a space suit it is ideal for traveling in harsh conditions. They can also be equipped with weapons for unexpected encounters with whatever, conflict resolution and occasional for mining purposes. Currently the most widely used model is the EW-003 Hornet (pictured below).

Chasers: Developed by a subsidiary of EisenWorks the Chasers are primarily Law Enforcement machines, due to their high speed and less bulky frames. There are also manufactured for civilian use that lack weapons. The current model is the EW-001 Hound. Currently in use by both nations. There is a SWAT/Riot variant know as the the Heavy Chaser.

Crashers: Heavily modded or illegally produced Landers that were built primarily for combat, named for their tendency to crash into and through building on their rampages. There are three used primarily by Wild Zone gangs.

Will be revealed as encountered:

?????: A pair of new Landers being developed by Phosphora, little details are available.

Artemia Academy:
A school founded in Artemia City within Hesperan Territory for the purpose of training pilots for the purpose of combat rather than simple explanation. The students are scouted from all sorts of backgrounds, with those in charge hoping to scout talented pilots for their ranks. Students are organized into teams often named after animals, the main purpose is to have the teams grow together as units before deployment.

(note there is no set amount of applicants for this game, the protagonists will all be Artemia Academy students. Most will be in their late teens 21, at the oldest))

My Bio

Name: Travis Arclite

Age: 19

Bio: When colonists first arrived on Venus, things were simpler, lots of free unexplored unclaimed land just waiting to be built up, and lots of opportunity for work. More often than not teenaged colonists ended up joining th work force early on unless they planned to get into politics or some sort of administrative position which were near impossible to get. Eighty years later this trend continued, even as the need for manual work started to dwindle more and more over time as land became scarcer and the demand for certain things went dont, leaving quite a few people without options, one such person was Travis. Having chosen to pursue the field of construction and fabrication, something that for many years his parents had said was the best option was to go into that field, and when he was finally ready he found that there just was barely any need for that kind of expertise. Frustrated, angry and looking for options he ended up falling in with a less than savory crowd, the crasher gang known as The Firebirds. At first he started out as a mechanic for their modded landers, learning them inside and out, tweaking them little by little to increase their performance, as well as test piloting machines that he modded as a sign of good faith. Something about those machines fascinated him, the speed, the solid builds, the way they transformed. In time he grew tired of just working on them, he wanted to pilot one for himself, in either the gangs turf wars or Crasher races, not only was it exciting, but he would make even more money in the process. He had it all planned out, he would move up, start making big piles of money, move out of the backwoods town of Artemia and into the big city of Cassini and live the easy life. The leader was a little hesitant to have him just move up to the big leagues just like that, but he had seen Travis do pretty well during test runs and decided to give him a shot provided he could pass a little test, a certain rite of passage many other full fledged Firebird pilots had gone through: hijacking a Police Chaser mech, Hound or Bulldog it didnt matter as long as he snagged one. He took the challenge, a surprise to th leader who expected him to back down like many had in the past.

A few nights later, when a few patrolling cops had stopped to grab a bite, and he saw his chance. While they were distracted he snuck up to one of their parked Hounds, forcing his way into the cockpit and hotwiring the system, and taking off with it. Seconds later the cops saw theirmachine taking off and scrambled to reclaim their stolen machine. He continually evaded them, shifting back and forth between modes, using the onboard weapons to disable the other police mechs as well as create some rubble blockades to slow them down. The chase through Artemia lasted for hours as he dodged and weaved through the various residential, commercial and industrial zones, to the point where the police had even deployed several Bulldog units out. Most hopefuls grabbed the mech zoomed around for a bit and then hopped out and usually that was enough to get where they needed, but Travis seemed determined to bring it home. Finally though the chase came to and end, not with a big shoot out, but with the powercells of the Hound finally running dry and forcibly shutting down, with what seemed like the entire police force's dispatched units surrounding him before he could bail. With no choice he surrendered and was hauled off to a cell. When being questioned he stayed quiet, but it didnt take for them to figure it out since they had seen this kind of thing before but not on the same scale as what he had pulled. For a time he had been confident that the Firebirds would bust him out, but as the minutes became hours that seemed to drag on forever he grudgingly accepted that they weren't coming. He had no choice to accept this fate as those original goals and dreams slipped away. He was sure he was gonna be stuck in that cell for years, but fate had another plan it seemed.

A well dressed man came looking for him, willing to make a deal. He told Travis of how tensions were rising, how he and others were certain that conflict wasn't just likely, it was inevitable. He went on to tell him how they needed skilled pilots, and that the stunt he pulled managed to get their attention, an he was sure to mention that if Travis agreed to join the newly established Hespera Armed Lander Force, that he would receive a pardon for what he had done, provided he didn't take off as soon as he was out of site. All things considered it didn't surprise him that they would be keeping a close, as well as strict eye on him but it was still as close to a get out of jail free card that he was going to get, he agreed to the proposal and it wasn't long before he was shipped off to Artemia Academy.
