In 2017, developer Illfonic released an entry in the asymmetrical horror game genre that felt inevitable: Friday the 13th. The monster is Jason, and the survivors are the camp counselors. If they didn’t make it, someone else would have.
But it looks like soon, Mr. Voorhees will be hunting down his last rebellions teenager: the dedicated servers for the game are being shut down. Illfonic says one last update will be posted later this month (they did not mention a date, but since the 13th falls on a Friday this month, we would place our bets there). Why is this happening? Most likely because due to a legal dispute, the team has been forbidden to create new content for the game since 2018. That situation hasn’t changed.
