Just because it's necessary for survival doesn't mean that you can't be a geek about it, whether you're a health nut, a cook, or just have a favorite kind of snack and have tried different varieties enough to have a favorite brand.

Lately, I've been really interested in re-creating food from fiction, whether that be gourmet gaming, historically accurate medieval European foods with modern-day equivalents, or a mix of food from books, video games, television series, and movies like in the YouTube cooking show Feast of Fiction.

For those more into the science of the culinary arts, How To Read A French Fry by Russ Parsons is a really interesting breakdown of what (for just a few examples) makes a pie crust crumbly or flaky, what ingredients make a cookie chewy or crunchy, how they react to heat, and more really cool information.
