Another question is why is T'Challa is packing heat. Honestly though I prefer the Coal Tiger look compared to this, at least that had Kirby's craziness behind it.

He has no powers, so he's more like Batman now. He's the current protector of Hell's Kitchen in Matt Murdock's absence. His sister is the current real title holder and thus retains the original costume and powers.

Here's his current costume.

The American Panther costume is a recolor of that, and is probably temporary.

Much like the Punisher's American themed uniform.
