I might have been when I was younger. Much younger. And I actually cared what people thought. But not anymore.

I play vgs (video games), watch anime, watch toku, play yugioh, play music from those genres (even Japanese music) and all that other stuff in public all the time. And I'm proud of it! :castlerock: I'm not scared to enjoy myself in public. People can throw a ton of Power Rangers, I'm weird, I'm childish, I've got no life crap all they want. I don't care. Cause I know I'm enjoying myself. So screw any of those people.

I'm a hardcore Nintendo fan, I see no fault in Playing my DS in Public. I mean I could understand if you were ashamed of the certain game you would be playing and what not, but then again that would be a rare few for me.

I can understand that too, and I'm also in the same boat as you. My library of DS games isn't exactly adults only, but I don't see why I should be ashamed of being seen playing games like the ones I've got.

I love playing my DS where ever I go. I recently started taking the bus again, and I would be lost with out my DS.

You could always read a book too, but if you want to take your DS on a bus with you, you may do it.

I want to know where that guy got a PSP that looked even remotely like an iPhone/iPod.

I just cracked right up when I read that. I really should ask that person the same thing.

I'll also just say that one circumstance that I wouldn't suggest playing on a portable video game device, is when you're at a formal event. Also, you know one place I've played my GBA-SP? Outside of a doctor's office. It was just me, this senior couple, and the doctor's assistant behind the desk who looked like she'd be older than me. I still felt absolutely no shame whatsoever.

Now that was a specialist I was seeing that time. As for my primary care doctor, I shouldn't look foolish in front of her if she saw me playing my DS or GBA-SP while waiting for her to see me. When I saw her this one time, she had asked me if I play video games, and I told her yes. She said that they're a good way for honing my eye coordination and stimulating my brain functions and all that.

Here's one other thing you guys ought to take into consideration. I brought up this discussion at another board, and this guy responded with this:
I feel more ashamed when dumb people killing other people and blaming it on video games for the crime; then playing handheld video games out in public.

When I was younger, but nowadays I'll play my PSP just about anywhere. The one thing I don't like about gaming in public is that I have to turn the sound way down or off completely if I don't have headphones.

We have a game room and a TV lounge (which usually ends up being the Brawl room) here at my Student Union, we play our games in public normally without really feeling any different. I mean why would you feel any shame? Hell we play Yugioh and MTG in public and no one gives a damn (its kind of weird though, all the Yugioh players are upstairs in the TV lounge and all the MTG players are downstairs in the game lounge, and all of the MTG players happen to be asian or part asian and all play Starcraft).

Since I'm apart of the Pokemon generation, gaming at my high school is talked about alot along with pop culture . I have two friends that grew up with playing a common game, Pokemon Gold and another group that plays Halo. Then , we discuss about films, comics, gadgets, etc. All in all, gaming is accepted at my school .

When I bought like five games, the lady at the register was like "That's a lot of games." *Shrugs* Those games happen to be on my wishlist.

People feel embarrassed about gaming in public? :sly: that's..unfortunate
Around here even at school, I see DS, PSP, hell even gameboy colour. I see people playing patapon, locco rocco, and pokemon. I'll agree on the professional point of view, then again tell that to the bell guys working at the telebooths playing tower defense.

Since you mentioned the professional point of view, I thought of something today. One other circumstance where I wouldn't bring my DS with me and use it, is when I'm waiting to be interviewed for a job.

In my perspective it is no different than if one would be on their cell phone texting away, playing a game on their ipod/ipod touch and feel no shame when playing a game on my ds. During few breaks I am often playing few minutes of it, but none of my fellow workers see me playing the ds say anything negative that would make me feel so, they rather take interest in what I am playing (or what does the system do) than think of it being something to be ashamed of.
