I was hooked on Star Trek when I was a kid,

Some of this was because William Shatner was really good looking, back then, and some was the way they portrayed human interaction. People of different races and cultures, together on a ship exploring the universe was a much needed shot of hope.

Since then, the inclusion of different races and cultures has become standard, and more television shows depict lives of many colors and customs.

Do you think science fiction television's embracing differences between people, instead of using those differences to justify discrimination, has changed the way people treat each other? What other factors have supported these changes?
