Hot scribe pushing 'Justice League' at Warner Bros.
Superhero pic back on with 'Gangster Squad' writer Will Beall

While Disney and Marvel were busy shooting "The Avengers" last year, Warner Brothers quietly began getting its own all-star superhero pic back on track, tapping "Gangster Squad" scribe Will Beall to write "Justice League," based on the WB-controlled stable of DC Comics superheroes.

Warner Bros. had no comment on the top-secret hire, which, due to its timing, was more in anticipation of -- rather than a reaction to -- the box office success of "The Avengers."

Beall has yet to turn in his "Justice League" script, though he has become a favorite scribe of Warners. He's writing the studio's "Lethal Weapon" reboot and its remake of "Logan's Run," which is expected to reteam "Gangster Squad" thesp Ryan Gosling with his "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn. Warners will release "Gangster Squad" on Sept. 7.

Warners originally tried to mount a "Justice League" movie several years ago, with George Miller directing from a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney. That iteration was set to star Adam Brody as the Flash, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman and then-newcomer Armie Hammer as Batman. Back in January 2008, the studio cited a lack of tax breaks as the main reason it pulled the plug on the project, which also needed a rewrite that wasn't possible because of the writers' strike.

DC Comics is a vital component of Warner Bros.' intellectual property, as "Green Lantern" scribes Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green were tapped to write "The Flash" for director Greg Berlanti, while another "Green Lantern" scribe, Michael Goldenberg, was hired to write "Wonder Woman." Additionally, Brad Peyton is working on a new draft of "Lobo," while John Kamps and David Koepp are developing "Spy vs. Spy" as a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard. WB also developed the "Aquaman" property several years ago.

Beall is repped by CAA and Management 360.

They'll get something made.... Kind of hard to just watch all these Marvel movies keep getting made and bringing in the cash.

Hopefully we'll get some quality super hero movies out of it. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

In order for them to do a Justice League movie, they're gonna have to do "reboot" Batman & Superman movies beforehand since those 2 guys are one of the founding fathers of the Super Friends.........sorry to disappoint :loltongue:

They plan to reboot Batman, and Man of Steel is a reboot as well.

Yeah, that pretty much was a "signal"/hint for me that there will be a Justice League movie in the future...........giving those 2 guys another movie reboot seemed more like a premeditated plan to answer back at Marvel's "Avengers"

You kinda feel bad for DC playing second banana every single time to Marvel....remember way back when MK vs. DC was just a random joke in the late 90s.

It really depends on this up coming Superman movie. The one thing that DC does wrong is keep changing an established character, theres going to be another batman, and most likely another green lantern. plus this new batman is going to have to be able to keep up with superman since Nolan's batman can't.

They shouldn't reboot Nolan's Batman. What they should do is bring it into the collective DC film verse where he gets cool upgrades and enhancements which he becomes their Ironman of sorts. He has the same things in the comics , yet they still have Batman proper as is.

Green Lantern will be the Hulk, where it will be rebooted , this time more seriously. But in the DC verse, he might as well be their Thor or atleast the space hald.

Wonder Woman. Give her own film or perhaps feature her prominently in Green Lantern.

Aquaman. He needs a major update, and why not make him the son of Poseidon and play on the Greek God mythos for a change, but he's like the pilot episode as well, being on the land and feeling a longing for the sea. Finds sea, and by defeating a dual enemy (Pollutinists working for Triton) he becomes the king of Atlantis. Zeus, and others gods come into play as well .
Cameos of Bruce Wayne/Batman and Flas are featured in this film.

Flash. A more tragic of them , his powers require a drug much like Utlimate Iron Man's Tony Stark with his skin condition and being blue to stabilize his body. Don't know villains or much so.... yeah.

Superman: This film came first, but here's the deal. Have cameos of a uniting force in each film .

I really don't agree with most of what you just said, however, I think Aquaman and Wonder Woman needs to model themselves after Thor. Both come from a fictional land of supernatural beings like Thor does, therefore creating Atlantis should be like doing Asgard, and same with the Amazonian forests.

While I do not agree with Aquaman being the son of Poseidon, his trident is, I believe, Poseidon's trident. A link to Wonder Woman. All I'm saying is that if they really wanna do a Justice League movie, they need to be finding the links between every character so as to play it out like Marvel has.

Notice that each and every Marvel Cinematic Universe film, they had pointed out to something that related to another character, which was why it was easy for us to accept The Avengers as a movie that fitted with everyone. Iron Man has SHIELD and Coulson, plus that small blooper with the Cap Shield in his room, then theres The Incredible Hulk with Tony's involvement at the post-credits, Iron Man 2 with Cap's Shield again and Black Widow and Howard Stark (who also jumped back to make a huge connection with Captain America: The First Avenger), then there's Thor who reference the Cosmic Cube along with Coulson and his talk with reference to Tony's armors as well as Erik Selvig's talk about once knowing a scientist that studied gamma radiation, then with Captain America the cube itself was the plot device, which referenced Asgard.

You see what I'm getting at? Marvel has built their universe that each villain could be treated as another heroes villains as well. Like how Doctor Doom could be Iron Man's foe in a fight or Cap can go up against Norman Osbourne. It's pretty connecting.

What DC has to do is to start connecting the dots. Best ones to start building on is Wonder Woman and Aquaman, and have them mention about forces in the universe that exists outside of the Earth (the Green Lantern Corp) and once the new Green Lantern movie comes, have that talk about extraterrestrial beings like Kryptonians and Martians. With a Flash movie, you really can't link him to anyone else but Green Lantern, so maybe a little visit from Hal or whichever Lantern they choose to go with. With Batman, possibly have him analyze different aspects of other heroes appearing on the news and have him think about possibilities of running into super powered foes, therefore basing tech off some heroes powers to deal with the villains he faces. Superman, just have the ring of Green Lantern cameo on him and then leave to go find another person instead. Have him fly to Gotham to talk to Bruce Wayne, his friend or something before he officially becomes Batman.

You could also have Superman go into public meetings and volunteering to meet with the King of Atlantis as a peace making offering in a scene, thus creating room for some screen time for both Aquaman and Superman to meet before an actual Justice League movie since Superman is a symbol of hope for America.

One other thing that should also be noted is that despite being called the Justice League of America, it shouldn't be concerned with Americans only. Aquaman's Alantean, Wonder Woman's Amazonian, J'onn is a Martian, Clark is Kryptonian, and Green Lantern serves as an intergalactic police officer of sorts. Which is why it shouldn't be called the Justice League of America, but simply the Justice League that's concerned with international, and possibly intergalactic affairs.

Well if took DC long enough to give what the fans wanted. Let's hope they don't F*&$ it up like a certain DC Film which I can't reveal the title.

It's so easy when you're evil
Honestly, it might be more feasible for them to just go ahead and do a one-off Justice League movie/movie series, introducing all the characters within it instead of spending years setting it up with other movies.

At this point, it just seems like DC lacks the ability to pull something off on the same scale as Marvel's movie universe, and rebooting the Batman and Superman 'continuities' yet again might drive a lot of fans of those movies away from this endeavor.
