I recently received a WMV file from a friend. When I tried to play it on any media players, it won't load saying I have a missing codec. Tried it on Windows Media Player (I rarely use this to play video files), it automatically downloads the needed codec and asks me to install it.

The codec is named wvc1dmo.CAB. Search Google regarding this and it only lead me to downloads sites for this file. One forum I saw says that it's related to SilverLight ( I don't have any idea what is it).

Is it safe to install it?

I think CAB files are for the Windows Mobile operating system. If you have a Microsoft Windows phone, you might be able to play that file.
