Rumors were spreading last month that actress Cate Blanchett was in talks to star in an upcoming movie based on the Borderlands series. Now we know it’s true…the studio developing the film, Lionsgate,
confirmed the casting today. Developed by Gearbox Software, Borderlands is a series of loot shooters with RPG elements and a sophomoric sense of humor. The series has gone through three main games, plus spinoffs like Telltale’s “Tales From The Borderlands.” Blanchett’s character, Lilith, is a powerful psychic referred to as a “Siren” in the Borderlands universe, who leads a group of resistance fighters called the Crimson Raiders.
The Borderlands movie will be directed by Eli Roth (Hostel, Death Wish) based on a script written by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Hangover Part 2 and 3).
